Before any refit is priced, the yard runs a condition assessment: the boat comes out of the water and we look, honestly, at what it needs. This in-yard check is how a refit is scoped — and it is a different thing from an independent survey.
What we check
Structure first: planking, frames, fastenings, keel and stem, with moisture readings and a look inside the hull. Then deck and superstructure, rig, propulsion and steering, tankage and systems, and the interior. The goal is to understand the true condition, not the dockside impression.
In-yard assessment vs survey
Our assessment scopes our own work. It is not a pre-purchase or insurance survey, which is a separate discipline done by an independent professional. For that, owners arrange
an independent pre-purchase marine survey — and we think that separation keeps everyone honest.
From assessment to spec
The assessment becomes a system-by-system specification with US-dollar figures and honest contingencies, which you approve before work starts. No guesswork, no surprises at the end.
See the refit programme on refit and restoration and where the boat comes out at haul-out and drydock.
